3 Ways To Calm Your Busy Mind - For Beginners

Time to train your mind!

We traditionally associate meditation with the act of sitting cross-legged on the floor, our index fingers and thumbs touching to create a little circle as our hands rest on our knees, and the repetitive humming of an audible “ohm”.

When you picture meditation in this light, it’s easy to dismiss it as a practice that simply has no place in your busy schedule. I mean, really - who has the time?!

However, due to extensive research on the topic that has been surfacing over the last decade or so, we are uncovering more and more evidence-based benefits to the use of meditation, especially in the context of high performing individuals.

If you’re looking to level up your mental performance, meditation might just be the secret ingredient that has been missing from your daily routine. But you’re so busy! How on earth are you going to find the time? Well, we’ve put together this short blog post to offer you 3 easy ways to incorporate meditation into your busy life.

1. Set a time (and stick to it!)

Time management is one of the most important skills that any high performing individual should have. It allows you to prioritize your tasks to ensure that everything on your daily list is done in a timely fashion. We schedule meetings, deadlines, and even get-togethers with loved ones. But are you taking appropriate measures to schedule time for your mental health? With just 10 minutes of daily mindfulness practice, research has shown significant improvements in cognitive function & efficiency. That means that you’ll be able to do better work in less time - and all it takes is 10 minutes per day.

2. Follow a guided meditation

If you’ve never meditated before, sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start. Enter guided meditations. These nifty recordings provide a full instructional experience that will provide you with the tools to get the most out of your meditation. With so many resources available these days, either through free apps or premium subscriptions, there are guided meditation options to help you through whatever obstacles that life throws your way. 3. Practice yoga

With hot yoga and power flows taking the western world by storm, it’s easy to forget that yoga, when done correctly, is a form of meditation itself. A common theme in meditation practices is to focus on your breath. This form of mindful deep breathing helps to slow the nervous system down, calm the mind and relax the body. By incorporating mindful movement into your breathwork, yoga is the key to taking your meditation practice to the next level!

At Mattr, we believe that the key to a happy & healthier life starts from within through the alignment of the mind, body & spirit. We believe this so strongly that it is the very basis of our company’s identity - down to the logo, with each ring signifying one of these three elements. Such alignment requires work, and this work comes in the form of yoga & meditation. That’s why they call it practice.

Are you ready to take your mental performance to the next level? Try implementing the 3 tips above, and follow Mattr Yoga Wear for more ways on how you can become the best version of yourself.
